As they strained to see him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them.

Yet more and more people believed and were brought to the Lord — crowds of both men and women.
But when the Temple guards went to the jail, the men were gone. So they returned to the council and reported,
Then someone arrived with startling news: “The men you put in jail are standing in the Temple, teaching the people!”
But one member, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, who was an expert in religious law and respected by all the people, stood up and ordered that the men be sent outside the council chamber for a while.
Then he said to his colleagues, “Men of Israel, take care what you are planning to do to these men!
“So my advice is, leave these men alone. Let them go. If they are planning and doing these things merely on their own, it will soon be overthrown.

(Some devout men came and buried Stephen with great mourning.)

But the believers had heard that Peter was nearby at Lydda, so they sent two men to beg him, “Please come as soon as possible!”
Now send some men to Joppa, and summon a man named Simon Peter.
Peter was very perplexed. What could the vision mean? Just then the men sent by Cornelius found Simon’s house. Standing outside the gate,
Meanwhile, as Peter was puzzling over the vision, the Holy Spirit said to him, “Three men have come looking for you.
So Peter invited the men to stay for the night. The next day he went with them, accompanied by some of the brothers from Joppa.
“Just then three men who had been sent from Caesarea arrived at the house where we were staying.
One day as these men were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Appoint Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them.”

So Paul, standing before the council, addressed them as follows: “Men of Athens, I notice that you are very religious in every way,
