So Elijah did as the LORD told him and camped beside Kerith Brook, east of the Jordan.

For the next seven days Solomon and all Israel celebrated the Festival of Shelters. A large congregation had gathered from as far away as Lebo-hamath in the north and the Brook of Egypt in the south.
They organized a huge work crew to stop the flow of the springs, cutting off the brook that ran through the fields. For they said, “Why should the kings of Assyria come here and find plenty of water?”
My brothers, you have proved as unreliable as a seasonal brook that overflows its banks in the spring
But when the hot weather arrives, the water disappears. The brook vanishes in the heat.
Wise words are like deep waters; wisdom flows from the wise like a bubbling brook.
Yet the time will come when the LORD will gather them together like handpicked grain. One by one he will gather them — from the Euphrates River in the east to the Brook of Egypt in the west.
Why then does my suffering continue? Why is my wound so incurable? Your help seems as uncertain as a seasonal brook, like a spring that has gone dry.”
